Queen Anne Of Brittany Suite

Queen Anne Of Brittany Suite

Unlike the other suites that invite you to distant lands, the Neo-Gothic Suite draws you to the very soil beneath your feet, reconnecting you to the storied past of Brittany as it was five centuries ago. This ancient land, once home to Celtic peoples, resonates with their enduring knowledge and lore. Nearby, the legendary Brocéliande forest whispers of Arthurian tales, the search for the Holy Grail, and the enchanting love story between Merlin the Magician and Viviane the Fairy.

At the heart of this legacy stands Queen Anne of Brittany, a woman of remarkable influence and vision. Ascending as Duchess of Brittany in the late 15th century, she became a pivotal figure in the region’s history. Through her successive marriages to two French kings—Charles VIII and Louis XII—Queen Anne deftly navigated the tides of political change, preserving the Breton identity and postponing its full annexation into France until after her death.

Yet her legacy extends beyond politics. Queen Anne was celebrated as a patron of the arts, a reformer, and an advocate for women’s education. She embodied both strength and grace, standing as a staunch defender of Breton customs while fostering a spirit of progress and cultural flourishing.

The Neo-Gothic Suite, the grandest of all, honours her regal legacy. This spacious royal retreat showcases the finest Breton furnishings of the early Neo-Gothic period. Among its treasures are a pair of imposing chairs famously featured in The Three Musketeers, a story that concludes with D’Artagnan’s daring quest to protect the honour of Queen Anne, suspected of an affair with the Duke of Buckingham.

Fittingly, the suite includes a salon, a dining table, and two adjoining tower rooms—one as a study and the other as an opulent bathroom of unparalleled elegance. The bathroom offers a view of a large Triskel sculpted under the magnificent old cedar on the château grounds. This ancient Celtic symbol, composed of three spiralling arms, has come to represent Brittany’s rich heritage and enduring spirit.

The crowning jewel of the suite is the majestic tower bathroom. Here, a specially commissioned mosaic celebrates Queen Anne, while a copper standing bathtub takes center stage, inviting you to bathe in a space where history and luxury converge.

Spend an unforgettable night in the Neo-Gothic Suite, where every detail reflects the grandeur of Queen Anne’s legacy. May her story inspire you to rise and enter a new day with the poise, strength, and vision of a queen.
